  • I slip back into my old ways all the time!!
I think its from a lack of routine so I just pick the easy route which is almost always the more expensive.
A treat now and then isnt bad though.

  • I think most people fall off the wagon occasionally. I think the fact that you've recognised what you've done says a lot, you haven't entirely slipped into old ways as you've acknowledged that you've started spending as much (too much!) as you did before on food/takeaways. Take a deep breath and climb back on the wagon!! No-one will have a go at you!! Just take it one step at a time again and you'll soon be saving money again :D

  • I think everyone has the odd slip-up but tries to stop it reverting back before too long. I had a little slip and bought a couple of takeaways and have paid for it as it had to come out of my food shopping budget. Looks like 8p value noodles for me by the end of the month! :D
    😁
  • Dont be too hard on yourself, I think we all do it. I lapsed big time last week, with mum in hospital I was never home to cook& we were always running around, so we had a couple of takeaways & a couple of visits to M&S at the services

But i'm back on track today.

I have a little cash diary and I consciously make the effort to fill it in every day. It says how much I spend, how my debt is coming down, how much I have in the bank saved up, how much I have saved that day been careful and also I note down any earnings coming in. It helps me stay focused on being careful with my hard earned cash and it stops me from slipping back into old habits as I get a little thrill seeing my savings accounts go out and my debt going down.

    Best wishes Bams x
  • I'm really doing my best not to. I've been extremely careful with money for about a month now - no luxuries, no spending anything that I really don't need to. I went on holiday a couple of weeks ago and was more relaxed about money there, but I'd planned and budgeted to do that and stopped again as soon as I was at home. It's all about self-discipline.

Don't nip to the chippy for dinner, as once becomes twice, twice becomes thrice... Do yourself a sandwich or something at home! Do you really need the extra pint in the pub? Of course you don't - you're going home straight after and going to bed. Get a soft drink - you won't have hangover either ;)

Oh no, I love chippy chips & I wish I was that sensible when it comes to last orders!

I'm exactly the same! However, when you're really determined to get debt free, it needs to be done! As soon as you're back into the black and have money going into savings each month, you're disposable income is exactly that - disposable :)

Hopefully my beer & chips withdrawal symptoms won't have to last much longer :D

my problem is my short attention span, it seems being dfw is following in the steps of all other 'hobbies' i've had and i've gotten somewhat bored of it after 5 minutes.

i'm trying really hard to keep going, but my brains moved on to the next project...

Surely this should warrant a longer attention span though? Just think about it - you could be debt free and have all your money for yourself, to spend on yourself!
