Renting telephone from BT

I assume that it is no longer part of the line rental agreement with BT that you have to rent a telephone from them as well.

However I have no idea where the original instrument is - probably went in a clear out years ago - and if I query the rental charge they will ask for the instrument back.

Any suggestions?

Gosh not rented a phone for years but if my memory serves me well it used to be listed as a seperate item on the phone bill not included in with the line rental
Why pay full price when you may get it YS ;)

Come to think of it, I'm sure they won't check that your parcel arrives.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Thanks for the link, Heinz. It's a comfort to know I am not the only one :o

Just phoned up and cancelled (no mention of returning the instrument) - trying not to be too annoyed with myself for not doing it years ago.

BTW does anyone know if BT are using overseas call centres now?

Seems to be hit & miss, you may get Delhi or Durham [no idea of exact geographical locations]

I'm fairly sure I wasn't speaking to Durham.

Had a bit of a panic when he asked if I was asking to cancel the service  Probably not a request that was on his normal script. However he put me on hold and, I presume, checked with a supervisor.

No mention of asking for the instrument to be returned :T

They did send me a prepaid jiffy bag to return an old phone when I cancelled instrument rental about 5 or 6 years ago.
