I have been using White Wine Vinegar for the final rinse but it's pricey. What's a good alternative?

Ordinary distilled white vinegar is best - Tesco and Asda do it for about 34p for 500ml, it can be dearer elsewhere though. You only need a capful or two per load.0

Just use cheapo, value, brown /malt, many on here, including me, do and the only difference is in your pocket
There is thread somewhere about this

Go to your local Chinese grocery, they carry one gallon sized jugs of white vinegar for 2 or 3 pounds.0

I notice the price of this has gone up in the last few days at both Tesco and Asda to about 59p, I think they may have sussed us.
I use brown for darks and white for lights and will never go back to softener.:j0 -
I'm interested to know how much people are putting in. I read a 'capful' or two, but how do you define a capful? The yanks have always been better with their 1/2 1/4 cups etc measures, us Brits, being suitably backwards, just bung in what seems the right amount.0

Such is life, eh? I just looked on mysupermarket.co.uk and it's 54p in Tesco, 52p in Asda. Same with the own brand brown vinegar. As all of the other vinegar prices have stayed the same it's not to do with increased cost to supply. But I guess the fact they've both put their prices up simultaneously is nothing more than coincidence... :mad:
I have used brown vinegar, I still use it for everything else, but once I used some that must have been over-coloured and it stained everything. Now that the regular stuff has gone up in price I might just risk it again.Danger_Fourpence wrote: »I'm interested to know how much people are putting in. To make sure it distributes evenly since getting an 'eco' washer, I have been mixing 1 part vinegar and 2 parts water (plus a little essential oil) in an old softener bottle. I use 1/2 cap of the softener bottle. When I used vinegar straight from the bottle I used 1 capful plus about 1/2 capful for luck!0 -

I bought 5 litres from there, it arrived really quickly too. I use about 2 tbsp and 5-10 drops of essential oils (usually lemon). Works brilliantly.First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.0 -
Well we use Sainsbury's basic. Last time I bought it, it was 12p a bottle. ( just make sure it IS vinegar and not "non brewed condiment" or whatever it is they print on some labels these days :rotfl: Must tell you, this also kills weeds on pathways etc brilliantly ( OH discovered that *rollseyes* well he is rather smug about it
)
You never get a second chance to make a first impression.0
