i have been given a netgear router dg834gt i want to use it instead of my o2 wireless router, my kids play ps3 online and are always complaining about the connection, so i thought maybe a change of router might solve the issue, the thing is i am trying to reset the netgear router but it is always still showing the wireless light when i haven't even put in my own settings, and my pc (which i use ethernet) doesn't even recognise the router, could this router be faulty, if so can anyone recommend a decent router i could buy to use for online gaming ie play station 3

Are you sure your resetting it correctly? it needs to be plugged in and the reset button (usually VERY small at the back of the unit) needs to be pressed for approx 30 seconds for it to factory reset:idea:0

yeah alienrik thats exactly what i've done it goes through the motions as if its going to reset such as the lights flashing ie orange test light etc.. then the bb light and wireless light come on0

Whos the ISP?
Can you log into the router?:idea:0 -
no i can't log in ,when i connect it to my pc via ethernet then open up a browser it says diagnose connection etc..0

Bear in mind, that resetting will revert it back to factory settings
Most netgears would be ~
192.168.0.1
Others might be
192.168.0.2
192.168.1.1:idea:0 -
i had a netgear a while ago and although i'm not the best a techie i got it going but just cannot get this one to do any thing, getting it to reset might be a start but i just cannot get it to do that:o0

I thought you said you HAVE reset it?:idea:0

On a Netgear router like yours the reset button (hole) on the back works two ways.
1 Pressing and holding for a couple of seconds forces a reboot.
2 Pressing and holding for 10 seconds forces a reset to factory default settings.
If the router by some chance has a Sky logo then it can only be used with Sky Broadband, other ISPs may also use this type of router with there own firmware but this should be marked.
As posted above you should be able to log onto it with
http://192.168.0.1
user and password will vary, you could try admin admin. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
no alienrik what i said was "i am trying to reset the netgear router"
penryhn it doesn't have a sky logo on,
i'l have a try again later or tomorrow when none of my lot are online and i'l unhook my o2 wireless
many thanks

it goes through the motions as if its going to reset such as the lights flashing ie orange test light etc.. then the bb light and wireless light come on
You have reset it that is what happens when it is reset, the wireless light will come on, now you need to log into the router and enter your settings.0
