In Shock!!!!

I've just come back from Timpson's and they quoted 75 pounds to have a new key cut for my husbands 1998 Escort. It is the type with the chip in.

Is there anywhere that does it cheaper or any other way of getting round paying this much as we just don't have it!

Many Thanks!!

My dad got a key from a Ford dealer for £35, that was also an Escort with a chip in it. That was a few years ago but it may still be worth getting a quote from a main dealer.

You got away lightly. My mother had to pay £230.00 for a new key for her Peugeot.
I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.

Keys on ebay under £10, I presume you dont have the master key to program it yourself?

Try some of the local independent key cutters and locksmiths you might get if for under £50 if you shop around.

I went here a while ago when I needed a new key for my Mondeo, they gave me a price of £145, so you have got away very well I think :)

Main dealer would obviously be more

Another cheaper way, which I did, is go on eBay, buy a second hand remote and get it re programmed to the car, half the price and even more than that sometimes!

The title of thread is quite misleading. There is noting to be in shock. The price is very reasonable.
Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.

One day soon people will realise how expencive car keys are to produce. I have lost count the number of time's that people call me a rip off only to call back an hour later and ask me to do the job!

    My central Timpsons Key Cutters.

Yes, I know was rather high, hence why I walked away.
    For the price it was:

    A key remote and blade
Cutting the blade to my car
Programming the key to start my car and lock/unlock it

However, I just did the rather less appealing way, got a second hand remote unit matched to the one I have already and got it programmed, a lot of £££'s saved :money:

ah but be fair, no one knows until they need a new key how expensive they are, i think people expect them to be about as much as a house key, thats when the shock sets in.

But apart from a chip, why are they so expensive.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
