can any one help? I am a little thick on these matters. I bought a pluscom 3.5 hard drive enclosure from to recover my files from the hard drivei of my PC.(PC has given up the ghost, drive ok). Drive is as below
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Mobile-Rack-Internal-Enclosure-Drives/dp/B000VSSCYW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1279974477&sr=1-1
Upon delivery it appeared the drive does not have any connectors so my hard drive is just sitting in the caddy. I haven't got clue what connecters are required to connect up to PC. I have tried looking but am confused. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks

What you've got is intended for mounting inside a PC. Assuming that your drive has SATA connectors, you should be able to get it working with a standard SATA cable and a SATA power connector.
Your PC may have a spare power connector inside, in which case you'll just need the data cable.
If you look inside and find that you only have a spare Molex-type power plug free you will need a molex to SATA power adaptor. Here's an example of both data and power adaptor packaged together:

Did you intend to purchase an internal rack? If you did, you would realise that you would need to use the connectors located on the inside of your PC. This is meant to be fitted in a spare DVD drive bay.0

I did not intend to purchase an internal rack, my pc is knackered and thought i needed something like this to use as a) an external usb drive and b) access my data by hooking it up to my laptop.0

If your old drive is SATA you need something like this:

or if it's IDE (more likely if old) something like this:

The 3.5" caddies are a bit more expensive than the ones for laptop drives because they generally come with their own power supply.0 -

Not wanting to waste the caddy I have already purchased, from the product I have bought in the link, what cable do I need to purchase to hook up the caddy to my laptop? Cheers0 -

How are you going to power the thing?
Just send it back, you should have a seven day period in which to change your mind.0 -

As Donnie says, you won't have any (easily accessible) suitable power output on a laptop.
If you have a spare desktop PC that you can open up temporarily, the cable pair in post #2 should do the job for the princely sum of £1.18 +, assuming that the PC has a spare SATA port and a Molex power plug free.0
