LCD TV - help me choose?

I am after a 42" or bigger LCD HD ready TV; I have been looking around and have found the SAMSUNG LE46M51, which is a 46" for £1499 inc delivery. What do you think?

I don’t want to have to buy another TV for a few years, hence the HD ready, but in true MSE I don’t want to completely break the bank. Has anyone got any alternatives that they could suggest?

Get yourself a short list and go and physically view the TVs. Just make sure that they are demonstrated with an analog/Freeview/Normal sky signal as well HD.
If I was looking around I'd probably check aout Sony, Panasonic and Toshiba as well.
That gum you like is coming back in style.
  • If you do go and look at it for real make sure you look at it from about the same distance that you are likely to be in your house. The current low-def signals from Sky/Freeview look dreadfull on really big TVs (there just isn't enough data in the signal to look good that big and they get really blocky and horrible - LCD TVs are so 'perfect' that they show up the flaws much more than their more forgiving CRT counterparts), particualarly if you're quite near them, so unless your lounge is massive I's seriously consider something smaller (e.g. around the 32" mark), but at the end of the day it's down to personal preference so go and see it in a situation as close to how you will use it as possible (i.e. distance and Freeview/Sky etc as epnrhyn said).
  • thanks guys, that is some good advice i will give it a go.
