As the title suggests I have around 7gb of music, pictures and various other thing on my old windows 98 machine which I want to preferably copy (or move) over to my new machine on windows xp.
I have tried the files and settings transfer wizard, which seems to work fine- but it suggests it will take 100hours to move everything over- I was hoping for something a touch quicker!
Is there any other way
thanks

its a long time since ive used windows 98 and i dont think you can use a USB stick without having to install drivers.
if you can, then great, thats probably the fastest way.
you could try burning a CD... though again im not sure if 98 supported it... you may need to get hold of an old copy of nero 5 or 6
failing that, take the hard drive with 98 on, put it into your computer as a secondary hard drive on XP and then just drag them off...0 -

Lots of options but in my opinion, the simplest is simply take the hard drive containing the music out and plug it into the new machine as a slave.
Drag and drop on the same machine.
1 x screwdriver and 10 minutes swapping
If you can though, put both machines next to each other and simply run the IDE/SATA cable out of one and into the other to save the Planet from screwdrivers.0 -
if they both have lan ports just use a crossover cable and transfer the data that way0

network them using a router!!

If yes, then can you copy them from the backup?
If no, then make sure you create backups as soon as possible or your next thread might be about recovering your lost music etc.
One inexpensive method is to get an external caddy for the disk in the old 98 computer, copy them to your new computer and use that disk and caddy as a back up drive.
Because that disk is presumably quite old and may be near the end of its life, you may want to buy a new disk or at least burn CD or DVD backups on your new computer.
Please don't neglect taking backups.0 -

So what was all the fuss about?
Only joking, well done, and I hope you've got a warm, smug, self satisfied feeling.
It's a bit like crossing the road on your own for the first time.
