No notification from Paypal!

Hi - I have just got back into my eBaying (only one or two items per week following a big clear out) and have a good look through this board to see what's happening etc.
Anyway, I listed a couple of items that finished last Wednesday and, for one of them, I received no notification of payment through paypal. Anyway, the buyer has chased me this morning to ask where the item is, and I explained that I hadn't had a notification to say she'd paid, then thought to actually check my Paypal account (I normally just await Paypal notification) and her payment is there...I feel awful! I always say I'll post within one day of receiving payment - this will have worked out at five days!
I've explained everything, but will probably get negative feedback. Would the right thing to do be to offer her some money back? e.g. the postage costs refunded?
Massive lesson learnt though - ALWAYS CHECK PAYPAL ACCOUNT rather than relying on email notifications!

I get about 30 paypal payments per day so cant check it all the time. I rely on Paypal updating eBay with the payment received status but there have been 2 occassions (out of about 4000 transactions) when it hasnt happended automatically and I cant work out why. It was only on chasing for payment that the buyers advised payment had already been sent.
I explained the problem, apologised and still got postitive feedback. I think if you explain courteously then only a very petty buyer would leave a negative.

Thanks Kev. Fingers crossed!
I think I've been courteous and hope that the delay hasn't meant she's missed a birthday or anything similar (if it was for a present).

Hi clarabell1984
That was my first thought, but it just seems that in this instant it hasn't come at all. I did check Paypal's FAQs and it said not to rely on emails as sometimes they're delayed, don't arrive etc. etc. I think this was just a one-off, but a valuable lesson!

This was happening to me last week and I was not posting items that I should of. I found 4 payments in my spam folder, so now i've turned my spam filter off, it was crap anyway lol.0
