Well I'm gutted! :(
I've grownn 5 pumpkin plants, 2 have gone to a local kids nursery, 2 are in my aunties garden and 1 I have at home.
Guess which one has no sign of a female flower yet .... yep MINE!!!
I can't believe how big the nursery pumpkin is growing, my aunties plants have loads starting to grow .............
Where am I going wrong?? It is growing in a Morrisons black bucket, should I maybe transfer it into the garden ..... I was soooo lucking forward to it growing for my daughter at Halloween :(

Not hugely experienced in pumpkins but they do like space and lots of water. Will use trailing tendrils to suck up more as they spread along the ground. I usually plant at least 3 as I tend to lose 1 and perhaps 1 may not produce a decent fruit even when pollinated. I find they tend to sit around in the soil doing nothing for a few weeks then they're off and grow at a rate of knots.

Thanks Money maker for your reply.
Think I'll transfer it into the garden tomorrow and see if that makes a difference.
Have just seen the 2 plants at my auntie's, one pumpkin has grown loads and plenty of others now starting to grow ........ I'm well jealous :(

i'm doing pumpkins for the first time. planted 6 in grow bags and 1 in a smallish ceramic tub. Not sure which are female flowers? but all of mine have the flowers direct in the middle of the plant, and 5 of them have 1 or 2 of what looks like yellow cirles with flowers out of them. only one of the yellow circles's flower is open.

its been quite changable weather going from heavy rain to strong sun, but i've got them in a sunny position.

Growing them for Halloween, just planning on keeping 1 or 2 for soup and decorations and donating rest to friends and family.

i've read some articles that say i may need to cross pollinate them. do you think i'll need to do this? There are quite a lot of insects here. My pumpkins are creeping onto my grass and trying to put roots from the stalks into the earth. is this normal?

    Thanks & Hope this helps.
Newbie. Really nervous but going to give it my best shot.:hello:

    .

No idea but mine have gone on a bit of a rampage across the garden, putting their stalks into whatever they can find, one wrapped its tendrils around a pepper plant and tried to strangle it! Had to rescue the poor little thing from the big bully pumpkin.

No flowers yet but loads of little buds growing, they are certainly interesting plants to grow! Wish they'd spend less time exploring the garden and put some of their energy into growing pumpkins through!!
