Last 3 cars have been Cat D.

Having said that I buy them at auction and choose realtively carefully and then have them repaired at a tame bodyshop.

I don't planning on selling in short term (nor probably long term) and I know exactly what was wrong and if there is anything I should keep an eye on.

Not sure if I would be just as keen on repaired cars but if seller had photos that showed the damage then I would be a lot happier.

My last one was our current Cherokee which I am all in at about £5k after repairs. A main dealer at the time was marketing one at £12k (however in my view he was smoking somrthing) but I reckon market price at time was £7k-£9k.

If you change cars frequently it might not be such a good idea, but for longterm cars can be a very cost effective option.

I bought a Galaxy Cat D with huge dents in it, no problems whatsoever and would do it again. Then again I wasn't fussed about fixing it, I just drove it dented.

I had a look on this site and have to say, like you have warned it gets addictive

Looks like some tempting deals on some very nice Ford S Max's ;)
But I have managed to wean myself off the site and I don't intend going back.... at least for now :o

Many years ago i bought a car that was Cat D after being stolen and then recovered. The thieves stole the full leather interior which was enough to write the car off.

I had the Galaxy insured with Elephant. Wouldn't recommend them though, shocking customer service and letters delivered over a month late. (so your insurance has been cancelled before you'd even been told the payment had bounced!)

I don’t remember ever being asked about if a car had been written off so I guess the insurance companies don’t care, either that or they check the database themselves and quote (or not) accordingly.

To be honest I can’t see any reason they would care, which is the company that won’t insure them? and how do they find out?
