cheap as chips laptop, well almost

http://www.techradar.com/news/mobile-computing/laptops/india-announces-23-laptop-to-arrive-in-2011-705304

just wondering about the specs. this will be an option for browsing and for improving access to education resources in poor countries. thats providing a cheap access to internet and bandwidth exists to back up a cheap netbook device, if this is designed as a netbook. i dont know any further details. guess this will have spill over effects on the cheap netbook market.

this device obviously wont suit everyone whose needs are for a higher spec device, but might suit those who need basic browsing only.

does anyone have any specs of the device yet.

I don't have a clue on the specs other than to say even the cheapest Intel processor alone is likely to be more than $23 unless they are subsidised so they will probably just be some sort of browsing appliance rather than a computer as such.

You won't be seeing them here (at least not at $23 - they may be on eBay at 99p and £150 shipping I suppose).

i would suggest they use some kind of arm processor and build the os to be cloud based, with maybe a couple built in apps for the obvious like browser/net connections/video conferencing?!? this one confuses me when people use it in this day and age... is that like skype? instant messaging? if theres video conferencing then there must be a camera... obviously there must be drivers and software for that..... storage will probably be on flash memory 2gb sounds about right, also it may cost them £23 to make, but once it actually gets here, im sure the cost will jump severly

anyone remember the speculated prices of the iphone 4? couple hundered dollars apparently.... not in this country, try £700+ for those who actually sell the damn thing outside of a contract

touchscreen wifi etc 2gb ram etc etc and working prototype, scheduled for production 2011:eek::eek::eek::eek: i cant understand how they could do it under 35$ for all this?
