Paid student loan but payments still taken

I left Uni about 5 years ago now and paid my loan off via debit card in July 2008 (it was only a few grand). I wasnt earning enough to pay it off through my wage, but was paying interest so thought i may aswell as i can afford to.
Turns out last year i did earn enough to start paying it, and to my surprise they had deducted £17 from my wage last month. I rang them to say ive paid it, and they agreed i owe them nothing. I asked why they had taken a payment out, and they said a "stop" had not been placed on my account. This stop tells HM Customs that i have paid the loan off. Dunno why but this wasnt done in 2008 for me.
Anyway i requested a stop to be placed and they said it could take 4 week for HM Customs to write to my employer to tell them. No idea why it takes this long. I was told to sent a copy of my wage off to the SLC and i would get a refund. 4 week later still nothing. I will find out on Monday when i ring payroll if they have got the letter from HM Customs
Im not holding my breath

I'll keep an eye out for this, i've just had my last loan and my plan is to pay it off in the next few months as it's not a lot either. Please let us know what happens!0

Will do
I suspect if you pay it off via debit card, because its not going through your wage (and through MH Customs), they dont know its been paid. Or they dont until the SLC tell them, which it seems is up to you to do.0 -
SLC send the request electronically to HMRC on a weekly basis. HMRC then issue the papers to your employers. Your employers has up to 42 days to action this request depending where in the monthly pay cycle it is received. Your best waiting till the payments stop and sending copies of your payslips in to SLC for a full refund rather than getting bits and pieces0

Yea im more concerned at getting the payments stopped at the moment. The 4 week is up tomorrow (the time they they claim it takes for HMRC to sent the letter) so i will ring payroll and see if they got the letter from HRMC. If not its another call to the SLC0

If they haven't received it and you need to call SLC, ask to request HMRC send a fax copy to your employer's payroll or HR department, best if you can provide the fax number for them.0

Rang today and they havent, but the 31 day period isnt over until next week so they cant do anything yet.
Its weird tho as my wage for the last 3 years has been over £15000 (going on my P60). Payroll told me today they the SLC deduction hasnt come out this month (even tho they havent been stopped). Dunno why as my wage this month will be the same as last month, when i did pay it.
So in 3 years of having my wage above the threshold, ive paid my loan once. Thats why i thought they knew i had paid it, because they werent taking any out0 -

Well thats what should have happened already, as the SLC told me today the request has been submitted on the 30th June. So they have just under a week to get it sent.
I shouldnt have to call them again. They have got the request and that should be the end of it. Useless
Unless the have issued the papers, and the guy who i spoke to at payroll didnt know this as they havent bee actioned yet0 -
The Student Loans Company will advise HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) when you are due to begin repayment.
Thats from the SLC website. So if they SLC advice the HMRC, why am i still repaying it. The SLC know i have nothing to pay, so should have never told the HMRC0 -
Well i got my wage today, and no loan repayment. As a understand it, once HMRC tell my employers to start taking payment, its up to them to calculate it? Seeing as ive not paid any (and my wage is near identical to last month when i did) i wonder if they have got the letter after all.
Will ring next week to check0
