Depends what your contract says, do you have it to hand?
  • just read the contract... the tenant is responsible for keeping the garden clean and tidy and free from rubbish. ... so yes my tenant is responsible.

    Depends.

In all the places I rented the landlord was responsible for the upkeep of the garden except one. With this one the landlord paid for the tools we hired to keep it under control i.e. strimmer and mower

The reasons for this is that none of them wanted us to prune their trees or shrubs.

If the contract doesn't say anything then talk to the landlord and tell them that they need to take care of the garden, or provide you with the tools to do it if you don't mind doing it.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p
