Disconnected Gas ( New Main )

Apologies if this is the wrong forum
I have just returned home from work to note my gas supply has been cut.
I received a card through my door on Tuesday telling me I would need to be avaliable on Thursday or Friday to give them access to my property to replace the gas main.
There is no possibility of changing my diary that quickly and i havent been able to take a week day off in years let alone 2 at once !. I awaited their contact to negotiate a weekend appointment.
However it would appear they have just cut the pipe ( on a friday ) and put another note through the door advising that the only time and day they can reconnect is on Monday at 8am.
I cant wait in till 8 am by this time on Monday I will have been up 4 hours and driven to london and flown to Edinburgh.
I just rang the Skanska emergancy line to complain and was told that there are no engineers in the area and that i would need to ring back on Monday.
The new pipe is sitting coiled up in the road, so there was no need to cut the existing pipe until they were in a position to reconnect it.
Has anybody else ever experienced similar ?

You would have received a letter from them some time ago telling you of the planned works and that your supply may be disrupted whilst works carried out also that access is required - the card is left by the engineers when actually doing the work, Unfortunaltly like other programmed works they have a timescale to adhere to and plans - what part of London are you in ? as you could call the out of hours number, have you had a card saying that want access to reconnect you? Why did you not contact them as soon as you got the card or is that what you said you did as it is not clear from your post.I am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.0

If they need to disconnect the gas for essential maintenence, they will.
If they do, they won't reconnect you unless you allow them access to your property.
If you are not available when they plan to reconnect all those affected, you'll need to arrange a suitable appointment after the work is completed so that they can safely reconnect you (they'll probably leave you a card saying so)
You can usually request a 2 hour agreed time slot in which they will visit you ... if you push them hard enough."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100
