I am looking for some help with a quandary our family is in. Our house is on the market and today our buyer pulled out which we are very disappointed about, and we can no longer proceed with the house we had an offer on. As time is not in our side, our back-up plan if this happened was to move in with my father as he lives…

Two houses on our street have been empty for at least a year and a half while on the market. An obliging neighbour with a key helps a great deal (ours is sandwiched between the two empties!) - who'll ring you if there's any immediate problems or stuff they've spotted needing doing, which is pretty much what the ones around here have done while empty. Haven't had any problems with squatters etc (worried me a bit since we live next door to one of the empty properties) - although we do occasionally borrow their wheelie bin and put it out for collection when ours is full!

Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!
