How to buy land off of neighbour?

Options
Hi,
My neighbour has a strip of land between their detached garage and my garden/side of house which they don't use approx 10ft by 3ft.At the moment my strip is 10ft by 3ft which is pretty much useless.
So i was wondering what would be involved in buying this and any idea of cost? So i could site a decent sized shed there.

thanks

Cost is whatever he wants for it, which in turn is based on whatever he thinks you can do with it.

You negotiate a price, and then get a solicitor to do the leagl stuff. You pay all fees.

Also ensure that you do actually purchase outright, and not just lease or get granted a licence, and that no conditions get attached to the land

Yes - important that the solicitor checks your neighbour really does own the land and that there are no rights of way through it that could end up ruining your intentions.

If you are on good terms with your neighbour and it sounds like you are, can't you just "borrow it". It's much cheaper, although the deal is over if he moves on and the new owner wants their 3" back. The cost of the land, solicitor x 2 (yours and his), land reg fees and the change of title deeds could add up. You could get a really great shed for all that!!

better to lease it off him for say 1 quid per week/month/annum.
its called a peppercorn rent. its required to make it all legal.

try and get say a ten yr lease minimum. (ie life of the shed).
    Get some gorm.
