Hi
Can anyone recommend a cheap place to stay in Ypres (Ieper) in Belgium? Also any tips about interesting things to see there, I'm interested in the war history aspect of the place
Many Thanks

Try googling @Novotel@ as there is one in central Ypres. They do some offers. Ypres is a lovely place. Never managed to spend more than one day there at a time, but have always enjoyed it.
Check out the War Graves Commission web site for graveyards. An information sheet on Ypres is on http://www.cwgc.org/admin/files/cwgc_ypressalient.pdf
Also try http://www.visitflanders.co.uk This contains some useful information.
I hope you have a safe and enjoyable trip:rotfl:0 -
Ypres is lovely and very moving, we went in March and did the War graves and WW1 sites. We actually stayed in Poperinge which is nearby, a lovely place with lots of WW1 history in it. You have to visit some of the cemeteries, Tyne Cot and Lissenhjoek (sp?) to name but 2 - there are loads of them but these are the biggest, Menin Gate, Flanders Field museum, Hill 62 (go down a real trench), Passchendale area and museum, Essex farm / Hooge crater and Mount Kemmel. Poperinge has the condemned cell and actual post at which they used to shoot the poor young soldiers at dawn who were convicted of cowardice.
