Mobile phone woes!!!

Options
I'd like a bit of advice from all you money savers out there regarding a bit of a dispute with a mobile phone shop (Vodafone).
Basically, I put my memory card in the phone the wrong way, it didn't get stuck and I removed it. However, the phone would not read the memory card when I later checked. Staff at the store say people insert the cards the wrong way all the time, it may not have caused damage. It was already in need of attention due to a problem downloading from vodafone live and I was taking it to the store anyway. They said that they would send it away stating the downloading problem and memory card not being read.
A few days later the phone was returned stating it was now perfect, repaired under warranty. However, on checking the memory card before even leaving the store I saw it was still not working correctly and pointed this out.
Away it went again untill it was returned to the store with a £200 estimate for repair not covered by warranty!!!!. (In the mean time I'd had 2 further texts saying the phone was back at the store)
They were initially unable to state what was needed to cost £200 but eventually rang the "technician" who stated that all he could tell was that the damage was called "Track damage" consistant with being dropped or stood/sat on. (This has not happened whilst I've had the phone from new.)
My argument is this; Why wasn't this picked up on when the phone went in for repair initially?
Has this track damage occurred between the time it was sent back "working correctly" and the time I picked it up.
The store are trying to wash their hands of the situation.
I'd be gratefull for suggestions to be able to take on the giant that is Vodafone.

  • Hi,

Sorry to hear of the problems you've been having. I work for Vodafone and might be able to help. If you'd like to take this up with Email Customer Services you could always go to https://www.vodafone.co.uk, select the 'contact us' option, then 'email'. If you leave the code FIT135 in your email this will automatically route you through to somebody who'll be able to help.
  • Thanks I'll email them now.
It's been 9 days now and I've heard nothing since I left the phone with them to allow them to find out exactly how I've damaged the phone!!!

It seems that the damage was not apparent the first time the phone was returned for repair and could not have been caused by you in the brief time you checked it in the shop (presumably witnessed by the shop staff) so the only possibilities are that they didn't really do anything to the phone during the first attempt (which they are unlikely to want to admit) or that the damage happened whilst the phone was in Vodaphone's care. I'd take IanG's advice and if that fails, contact trading standards.
