  • It's usually 1 months rent as deposit and 1 months rent in advance to sign for a tenancy. Although sometimes its more as a deposit e.g. 6 weeks.

So for £1K pcm rent I would say you need at least £2K - one of them for the deposit and one for rent and possibly you are looking at around £2,461.54 (£1361.54). Plus if you go through an estate/letting agent their fees.

I know you just asked about the deposit but thought I would cover the lot. :)

  • Yes sorry thought that may not be what you wanted to hear. Round here its over £1K just for a single person to move into a one bed and I'm not in London!

Good luck and hope you get your exchange :)

Ask your local council if they have some sort of Bond Scheme - many do - they guarantee the bond without actually handing over any money to the landlord, or they may have funds to loan you a bond which you then repay them - different councils have different schemes

    good luck
