It seems like he might well have been rather remiss in not changing his PayPal password, especially if he knew she had been using it.

I trust he will now do so, as well as those for eBay, online banking etc etc.

He can hardly blame the bank.

Why oh why is it always the bank's fault? Why or why can't people get the facts right? Come on folks take responsbility for your actions or preventative action at least.

Here we go again with charges.

I'll do the short version cause my head hurts.

Ok, op - You are completely wrong with your facts.

Lets do the maths for a person going overdrawn for 4 days by £6.50

    1 monthly charge of £15
    4 daily charges of £6

    Grand total £39 (£24 +£15)

If you say your son got charged £75 - its probably 10 daily charges and 1 monthly charge. (you can do the math)

    Solution:

Get your son to ring up phonebank (01733 347 007) and POLITELY ask them to waiver the charge for him. Tell them he realize his mistake and will monitior his account using internet banking. Explain to them it was less than £10. The adviser should do it. If they don't ring up again and nicely ask again.

When partners split up change the bank account to a sole account ASAP. It removes a lot of pain in the long run and hastle.

Get your son to get free Mobile banking (from Aug its free) and monitor his accounts a bit better.

Also change passwords for paypal and e bay if he has shared them. Get him off e bay if he uses it, (I know you said it was ex who used it) and use this extra time to get a job and not shop!

    Good luck.

Might be worth mentioning in any discussion with branch staff or in a complaint letter that you note that if a similar event had happened on or after December this year, under the slightly more reasonable revised tariff, the charges and interest would have been nil (£10 buffer zone being introduced)!

The current charges explain how they are able to maintain the 4% rate on the Vantage account.

The vantage thing is to attract a certain class of customers and have at least one "competitve product" in the market.

The charges in the future regarding the overdraft fees about to come into force is to say bye bye to again another class of customers.
  • Don't want to join a pile-on, but regardless of the rights and wrongs of what Lloyds are doing ultimately it's the ex's fault. If necessary then do report her for identity theft.
    Sig to go here...

It's not identity theft, Lloyds TSB are talking mince.
Anything I post is my opinion, so from time to time I may be wrong. I try to provide answers based in fact, however I don't know everything, so (like all posters on MSE), take what I say with a pinch of salt.
