Every time I switch on my computer I get a message that system start driver vobiw failed to load. I am now positive that this is why my computer is very sluggish.
Microsoft say I should verify the drivers are configured correctly but I don't know where this driver should be!
The best thing google came up with is this but as itunes has never been loaded on the machine and it would mean reinstalling XP does anyone have any other ideas?
'My XP system (upgraded from Win2k) is failing at AGP440.SYS as well and the video chipset it drives seems to be a common thread. The iTunes driver that apparently conflicts with the AGP440.SYS driver is VOBIW.SYS and you have to start XP or 2K off the CD and use the repair feature (see: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;324764). Log into the repair console as the administrator and disable the VOBIW.SYS or AGP440.SYS service. Windows will then boot and you can go in an uninstall iTunes. Supposedly the latest build of iTunes fixes the bug, though I think I'll skip it.'

I've come across vobiw.dll as part of CD writing software - can't remember which one, but possibly DirectCD? - it was for writing direct to a CD anyway & it was never very reliable, Try starting in safe mode and then uninstall any CD writing software and re-boot. If it works you can reinstall the software but leave out anything like DirectCD or similar.0

I think you might be right. I had Pinnacle Studio and Instant CD/DVD but removed them. When I look at the FAQ on their website they talk about compatability issues with XP and 1394 connections which I also removed from the computer.
Looks like their is no easy solution.0
