Tried to open second current account and oh my...

I walked into Lloyds TSB in my local town to open up an account, I don't need it for anything other than moving money over to use for my every day spending, my other (main) account would be for all my bills, my savings etc but I like to keep them seperate if i can!
I walked into Lloyds and asked if i could open an account, she asked who I bank with so I said and the first question was 'So why are you unhappy with them' and i said 'I'm not, i'm just looking for a second account elsewhere'.... She continued asking loads of questions and then said 'Do you plan on putting your salary into this account every month' to which I responded 'No, but I'll be transferring a few hundred per month into this account'.
She basically stopped me right there and said 'Well we can't offer you account, if you dont put your salary into it it wont be set up correctly, your better off trying elsewhere'....
I went in to OPEN an account and got turned away because I wont put my full salary in, but will put a few hundred per month?
Crazy times, perhaps im missing the point but there account doesnt specify you HAVE to put your salary in, nor a minimum amount.

Try opening an account with someone online. You can then look at all the questions yourself, without having the sales talk from someone in the branch.0

Was just dead shocked they turned me away, only reason i went into branch is because when you do it online it says 'Please come into branch and bring indentification'....0

I'd complain.
I did an identical thing, went to LTSB for second account, min £100 month to be deposited, no salary, my main bankers are Barclays, no probs, offered Gold Account there and then, so it can be done :-/0 -
I thought it was weird, i was like... your turning someone away who wants to open an account with you, and if things go well, possibly move EVERYTHING to you?
Weird way of working, defo put me off TSB0 -
I wouldnt have said i wasnt putting my salary in it.For everthing else there's mastercard.
For clampers there's Barclaycard.0 -
Sales Sales Sales - someone who would have to spend half an hour with you to open the account would not be rewarded in their sales target as you would not pay enough in over a 3 month period.
Do it online and go into a branch just with your ID if necessary.0 -
Try a Nationwide Flex Account

http://www.nationwide.co.uk/current_account/default.htm
No minimum funding requirements, and can all be done online etc.
(And free overseas transactions)0 -

I walked in the other day and opened a Premier Account, the chap in branch was very helpful and had it all sorted in a flash.
I have to say, since opening the other day I'm very impressed with Lloyds ... I too only went in to branch due to getting the Sorry we can't open you an account online message.
Glad I did.
& I don't think you would be telling a huge lie if you were going to consider moving to them in full after the initial period.0 -
I opened an account with a different provider now, my initial experience was a complete shock! Being turned away from a bank!0
