    if you are looking to build a web site USING HTML then download

    www.nvu.com

    Microsoft Windows - Zip Version (.zip)The Zip version can be downloaded if you are behind a restrictive firewall which blocks .exe files. The zip file can be extracted to a folder on the desktop once downloaded, and the program can then be launched from within this folder without any installation. This version does not integrate with the windows system shell.

    But to answer the OP's question, there isnt really such thing as having HTML installed, HTML is just a programming language, and as such can be coded in any text editor.

    Personally I would recommend
    Windows : Notepad++
    Mac : Coda
    Instead of the standard notepad utility

    It's much a common sense language and can be picked up quite easily.

    Once you know what to type, you type it, same as you would do with English language.

    If you're looking to use HTML to enhance your eBay listings, then I suggest you keep the HTML for the most common, or all, of the commands you wish to use in a single text doc, which you generated with Notepad, and Copy/Paste them into your eBay listings from there.

    It's probably easiest to copy the HTML for what you want to do from any of the 'Basic HTML' or 'HTML 101' tutorial sites that are out there on the interweb.

    Learn the tags basically

    Do a search on google for "barebones guide to html"

    I read one and it helped me understand the basics of writing in html, alternatively use a WYSIWYG editor and it will do all the work for you, then you simply learn the code

    Look in eBay's forum and community section and see if there's any advice there on enhancing listings.

    When I was learning to code in HTML, I bought one of the "Idiot's Guide" books about HTML programming, which was straight forward and easy to follow. It's a good bit out of date now on most of the currently used web page technologies, but your local library might still have a copy and it will help you with the bare basics.
