its something one does, if ever a room is to be gone in by a stranger it gets dealt with first - i always tidy / prune the garden when my dad volunteers to help me mow the lawn!

work today so no flying - I mostly like my work so no sympathy required.

It was good to go to bed with a virtuous glow knowing I had made a good start on the clearing out. Tonight I will start packing some of the books. Had a positive call from our EA last night to say our buyers have finally had the homebuyers back and are signing the contract today with a view to exchanging asap. Huge relief, as I was starting to fret that all this time and money will go into the purchase and then we will lose the sale.

Well done Punky - I wish I was any use at fixing things. I just make regular drinks and nice food for the workers.

Roxy/Denise - I am with you on that one. I hate unannounced visitors for that reason - hard to keep the only reception room clean when you have toddlers. New house has three so hopefully I can keep at least one clean.....

Spent yesterday Xmas shopping so I have all of my list (and some) to do today. Going to go and dig out the childgate NOW :rotfl:

Collecting jars [got through freecycle] and making some marmalade today. Chest infection still not completely gone so shall take it fairly easy as I'm going back to school Monday and I must be fit enough to withstand a whole day teaching
    Sink still shining
We don't need to do it perfectly - good enough is exactly that GOOD ENOUGH.

  • Hello, all! I'm still around. I've been reading, and flying, but not posting. Things have just got too hectic at home.

Have local TV cameras here today to make a small film about Freecycle. So need to have a quick swish around, but don't feel nearly as daunted by the state of my home as I would have 6 months ago. They've asked that I make pasta on my brand new Freecycled pasta machine!

Edit, Punky, well done fixing the washing machine. Want to have a go with my laptop?

    See you later, Penny. x

No pantry here either but what would have been when the house was built is now an utility room :)
Getting rid of a huge bag of French textbooks via freecycle :)
    Going to the gym
I have also started a few new habits:
10 minutes of ironing a day
Not allowing myself to have my coffee (proper ground coffee) until I have emptied the dishwasher and put the washing in the drier in the morning.
Tidying the house from 2.30 until I leave to fetch the kids at 3
Taking the kids to the adventure playground after school - just next to school, they wear themselves out there and have largely been less inclined to make a mess at home :)
Paying the kids to do little jobs has worked at least with ds1, he has so far swept the hall, collected dirty laundry and fed the chickens. He's a star he even did what I do, he swept toys out of the door if they were in the hall. If they are unclaimed after a day they are binned.
Hubby has an in tray now so theres one less 'pile' in the kitchen:)

Hex 2 we have 2 'front rooms' and have one which is mainly the childrens' room and one is the 'grownups room' It is a privilege for the children to be in the grownups room, they have to ask, and there are no toys in the grownups room.
I have a weekly trawl of the front room floor and wayward toys which are left out of the box get the 'tidy it or bin it' treatment.
