I empty mine when the flowers have died off or my patience runs out! They arent as productive as growing them in beds but they are nice and every bit helps. I grow them for Christmas though, plant the last spuds you dig up and put the tub somewhere sheltered and cover with fleece when the weather is getting bad (pound shop fleece) and you will have new spuds for xmas day!Clearing the junk to travel light
Saving every single penny.
I will get my caravan0 -

Is it necessary to keep watering the containers (mine are in compost bags) until harvesting? Lots of foliage, some have flowered, none of the foliage shows signs of dying back but is that because I water them 2 or 3 times a week? I'm growing Duke of York (earlies) and Sante (maincrop), and they are in bags because abdominal surgery means I cant dig.
Beginning to think they'll all have rotted and I should have stopped watering when the foliage appeared

Potatoes in tubs need lots of water, and feed too. They're hungry crops. So yes, keep watering.
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -

Ist time I've done them in tubs this year too, the top growth is head height at the moment.

I posted this question in another thread but then found this one which seems more suitable
Can I grow potatoes in a black recycling box? (I have a spare as council changed colours). Is it tall enough and how many potatoes should I put in? Also can I plant now for Christmas?0 -

I'm growing mine in a large round tub similar in depth to a recycling box. The flowers have come and gone and they are starting to die now. I guess it'll soom be time to harvest (if there's anything to harvest:rotfl:). If it helps I am growing a courgette in a recycling box. They are great!Loved our trip to the West Coast USA. Death Valley is the place to go!0
