To thank the mums who have had my 2 over the last few weeks whilst ive been working, one day next week, Id like to do a pirate themed day at the house, I did a prinecess one last year and the kids still talk about it,
Money is tight a(as ever) so its got to be done on a strict budget,
So far ive thought of popping the play tents up and leaving them to it
leave craft things for them to make eye patches and swords
colouring in comp with free colouring pics from internet
Pirate themed puzzles http://www.the-pirate-ship.com/piratepuzzle.html
treasure hunt and get my 7 year old and 10 year old to make the map (im sure I can bribe him to join in????)

?please can someone inspire me?? :T

good idea, some nice chocolate coins as the treasure
cant forget the parrots thou, if they are going to make eye patches (although be careful of these because of depth perception when they are running around) and swords you can do some parrots as well
some big silly beards as wellDrop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)0 -
Ive printed out some parrots and will copy them onto card, will give them colouring things and jewls and glitter to decorate them also,
ANd ill see what i can sort for the beards.
I think thats enought to fill an afternoon
and ill see what pirate films i can borrow etc and make up some pirate games.:A :j0 -
beards are easy,
some card cut into the 'right' shape/s
some cotton wool - could colour this first so they can have different colour beards
and some PVA/pritstick for sticking the wool on
then some elastic for keeping them on their heads
haha just had a funny thought - get them to play a 'scrubbing the planks' game where you give them a bucket or water and some brushes and get them to clean the kitchen floor... who said child labour couldnt be fun for them...Drop a brand challenge

Don't forget to make some Jolly Roger flags (cut out coloured paper and stick together?). You could stick them on to bamboo canes in the garden. If having different experiences, thoughts and ideas to you, or having an opinion that you don't understand, makes me a troll, then I am proud to be a 100% crying, talking, sleeping, walking, living Troll. :hello:0

Think Mr Maker has done some pirate type crafts - may be worth looking at the Cbeebies websites. His things are usually suitable for slightly older children as well, and will look better if they're a bit more capable.
If it's a full day and you want some quiet time what about a DVD of e.g. muppets treasure island, peter pan - might be useful if it's wet.2021 - mission declutter and clean - 0/20210 -
there is some pirate game called musical islands, you put newspaper out and when you put the music on they swim around the islands and when it stops one pirate per piece of newspaper, just like musical chairs0

If you go on sparklebox you can download some pirate masks. Get some paper and dip in coffee and dry and let the children draw treasure maps or write messages in a bottle. If you can get some large cardboard boxes the children could make their own pirate ship. Hope you have a brilliant dayolympic challenge starting 7/1/07:j0

Don't forget the priate's telescope....you could either use some black card or heavy paper and roll up a slightly larger piece and slightly smaller bit to fit inside to slide in and out....a cheaper version could be done with toilet & kitchen roll middles!! Decorate with good old glitter glue from Wilko or poundshop!!
Pirate head scarves or bandanna's could be made from an old sheet, you cut them down to size and the kids can decorate with pirate designs. If they don't already have costumes you can make these easily from old pillow cases......cut our a jagged v neck from he top and jagged arms wholes at the sides, cut the bottoms jagged too and make some sash belts from an old sheet. Kids can decorate this with pirate designs too, used felts, crayons, fabric pens etc.
Paper plate fish & jelly fish make good decorations.....take paper plate, cut a quarter out, this becomes the mouth, stick the cut on on the opposite side to make the tail. Stick on a googly eye or just draw one and decorate!!
For the jelly fish, cut a plate in half, cut lots of tissue paper and attach to the back of the back edge and again stick on some eyes and decorate.....we used gold and silver plates from poundland at our party which looked great.
You can make swords from cut out sword/dagger shapes from some old cardboard and then covering in silver foil, can then be further decorated by kids with glitter or stickers.
Previous post talked about treasure hunt, if you get some cooled tea (no milk) and lightly dip or paint some plain white paper it makes it look really old, you can even burn the corners slightly for that really old look.
This website is great for getting ideas I always refer to it often and highly recommend it, all the party ideas are split into themes, and are from mum's who have held the parties and what craft/game ideas they have used.

I think a Pirate Party is a fantastic idea! My first thought was also a treasure hunt game; either with written clues that follow a trail to the final 'Pot of Gold' or as simple as hiding tubes of sweets around the garden - tied to trees, that sort of thing. Is there some (safe!) way you could make a 'walking the plank' type game? Involving a paddling pool and a length of wood??? Don't forget some temporary tattooes! You need to invent some fake 'grog' for them all to drink. Gosh it sounds like fun and I'd love to have gone to Pirate Party!0
