I use it all too. My mum's from Lancashire and she calls them 'Scallies'.

  • We eat all of the spring onion in salad.....I thought everyone did. In Northern Ireland we call them scallions.

    Pink

Thank goodness for your post Pink!! :D I was beginning to think I was a freak from a long line of freaks!!!:rotfl: :rotfl: Eat it all in salad! Well obviously trim any manky bits off, but if you cut away all the green what's left??
You never get a second chance to make a first impression.

.... And we make delicious champ with them. Warm a little milk with the chopped scallions and add it to your mashed potatoes with some butter.
  • The green bit is the best bit. Like Pink, I didn't realise people threw them away. I put them in salads, or stir fries, or chopped up small in scrambled egg.
May all your dots fall silently to the ground.
  • Eat them, they're lovely especially in a salad.
Never realised that some people dicarded them.
  • We use them in salads too!
Rather than start another thread, do you know if beetroot leaves are edible, and if so what to do with them? thanks.

I use the white part for salad and keep the leafy part for chopping up like chives and putting in with whatever really.... I have heard that in other countries they do the opposite to what a lot of us do, and the eat the leafy part and throw away the other bit! ..don't know if this is true though!! :)

Not quite the same thing but my old neighbour and I used to share bunches of radishes. She used the leaves and I used the bulbs.
