Warning to would be Scottish Landlords

Since November 2005, some (not sure if this applies to all but worth checking on) Local Authorities introduced new regulations re Anti Social Behaviour by Tenants, it is now the responsibility of the Landlord to ensure his/her Tenant behaves in an appropriate and responsible manner towards others, should the Landlord fail to do so or Police be involved &/or charges laid the LA in it's wisdom can take over the Tenancy & rent for up to one year.
So the poor Landlord is expected to approach the tenant from Hell and TELL him/her to desist their Anti Social behaviour immediately or said Landlord will do ... what? in the meantime said tenant from Hell has just beaten the !!!!!! out of interfearing landlord?.
Makes you want to go out and buy a buy-to-let property on the spot right?.
Having read the paperwork relating to this I asked at the LA office for an explanation of what it really meant and the above is the abridged version of the response.
Had 3 BTL's, excellent tenants, never any problems but what with this and the new Laws re registration etc have had enough and have just sold all 3, new owner into Holiday let's in a big way, bought 4 years ago and have tripled purchase price so right move for me.
Please do your homework before jumping in each LA has it's own set of regulations and it's own interpretation of legislation, not always the correct one either as I have found on occasion.

  • Another sign of left wing socialist influences on scotland to beat the capitalist over the head with, lets hope brown does not bring its like it to England.
  • I hope not too but I'm sure our esteemed Labour Leader in Waiting (God forbid!) will eventually come up with something similar to extract as much as he possibly can from the Landlords of the UK under the thinly veiled guise of protecting the Tenant rights.
Am not saying Tenants should be subjected to lousy Landlords BTW but by the same token Landlords provide a service to all LA's by providing housing and should not be held accountable for the poor behaviour of others.
