Will they refuse me a refund?

I recently ordered a jewellery box online for my mom that she fell in love with when she saw it. We'd seen it in the actual shop but didn't buy it, so when I got home I thought I'd surprise her by getting it for her.
It was delivered last week and it was beautiful, except for the fact that one of the jewellery drawers had what looked like 2 burns or a scratches in the lining smack bang in the middle of the drawer. Obviously because this was going to be a gift I wouldnt want to give it to her in that condition so I rang up and asked what to do and they said they would send me out a replacement drawer.
The replacement drawer arrived today and this one isn't right either! There are two wooden peg things towards the back that I think are for stopping the drawer falling out when you open it, but it looks like one of the pegs has been knocked in too far and the lining has been pushed away from the side.
I rang customer services again and was actually huffed at by the woman I talked to, and was promptly told that the replacement drawer had been checked and that there was nothing wrong with it. After I explained again what was wrong she put me on hold for a bit and then came back saying that I had to return the drawer to head office where a 'decision' would be made.
I'm really disappointed as this was a present that holds significant sentimental value - my nan passed away a few months ago and my mom wanted something beautiful and fitting to put all of her jewellery in, so I don't want to give it her like that.
If it turns out that I get sent another drawer that's not up to scratch I'll just request a refund instead of faffing about and go and buy it from the actual shop where I can see it before I buy it. What I'm worried about is will they turn around and say sorry it's past the amount of time allowed for a refund? Is it something like 7 or 14 days?
I don't know whether I should just ask for a refund now instead of trying to keep going through customer services for a replacement drawer? I'd hope that if they send me another replacement drawer that its okay, but if they 'check' it again like they did this one it'll probably end up being in the same condition!
I've never seen my moms face light up so much when she saw it so I really would like to get it sorted out. I did try to keep it a secret from here but that woman finds out everything! :rotfl:
