Hotpoint Frost Free Fridge Freezer

Options
I have a Frost Free Fridge Freezer FF40P which is not working properly. I have had 7 engineers out so far and no-one can fix it. does anyone have an idea of what might be wrong?

The lights are normal but the freezer stops working and by default so does the fridge. the fridge temperature goes up to 12 degrees and the freezer up to 2 degrees above freezing.

If you turn up the dials to maximum and press the supercool and superfreeze and after anything between 4 and 12 hours it kicks start the freezer once the lights start flashing.

Engineer comes out, resets the dials, fiddles about with computer, goes away after saying it should work. But it doesn't, within two hours of going the fridge warms up and so does the freezer. So I turn up the dials to maximum press the supercool and superfreeze and after anything between 4 and 12 hours it starts again.

Engineer comes out, resets the dials, changes motherboard, goes away, fridge and freezer stop working and it all starts again.

The motherboard has been changed twice, the compressor is said to be working.

Am at the end of my tether, 8th engineer due to come out, has anyone else had this problem?

many thanks

Sounds like you have waited long enough for the company to repair, time for replacement, don't you think?

I assume you are still within the warranty period?

Hotpoint / Indesit will only do a "bodge" repair to try and make it last until the end of the warranty period and after the warranty period they will of course find that lots of things need replacing when in reality they needed replacing before the warranty expired.

We had this with a washing / drier at my old rented place, luckily the landlord owned the WM/DR. Indesit had to come out and "repair" it at least 3 times. Each time they just put the weight block back on top of the drum and left it. When an independent engineer looked they saw that some sort of wishbone was cracked and needed replacement but Indesit continued with their "put it back together and leave it" approach.

Do you have an extended warranty? If you do not it might be worth rooting through your paperwork for the original extended warranty offer. You can still use that offer to take out the extended warranty within the first 12 months. If they offer you one now do not take it up as they charge you a LOT more. Indesit/Hotpoint are so awful it might be worth taking out an extended warranty even though for most other companies it is hardly ever worth it.

Sorry, outside of the warranty period, appliance only 18 months old when it went wrong. Have decided to give it one last go then I'm going for a new one. Will take out extended warranty next time!

I would advise going for a decent make next time rather than an extended warranty :)

    Bosch / Miele etc

It sounds like it could be a thermister fault. The thing that senses the fridge/freezer temperature.

Has this part been replaced? Its strange that the superfreeze functions gets it going after 4/12 hours?

Very abrupt mechanic came to replace part, which he thought was a waste of time! So far, it is working ok, but I don't hold out much hope for it.
