Help!!! Electronic Payment sent to wrong place!

Hi

Thursday night ruined!!

Just been reconciling my citi credit card on line and realised that the payment that I sent electronically last week has not yet been credited.

Closer inspection and I now realise that I have sent the payment to an old citcard account. Rather stupidly I had 2 citicards set up on my halifax account - I should have deleted the old one but have now used it in error. Comparing the accounts show that the receiving bank account number is the same but the sort codes have changed. The old number is citi cards c/o Hsbc salford quays manchester.

I have spoken to citi (an overseas operator) but their system was undergoing maintenance and they couldnt really help. I have £700 in the system somewhere.

Any help appreciated

is the old account still opened? If not then it most likely go into a suspence account and you should be able to claim back

I haven't used the card in 5 years so it is closed from my point view.

Right but it's Citi's point of view that counts.

One of four things will happen:

    1. The account is still open and is now £700 in credit
    2. The account was closed and has now been re-opened and is £700 in credit
    3. The £700 has landed into a holding account, Citi will have to run a trace, and will get the payment back to you upon completing the trace (can take a few weeks)
    4. The £700 will be returned to the sending bank due to it containing an invalid reference (card) number

You'll need to find out which of the four options has happened to you from Citi. They are the only people who know.

If one of the first three options apply, you can request they send they send the money back - this will be either in cheque form or BACS transfer to the sending account.

    Good luck! :o
