What can I do???

Will try to be as brief as possible but bit of a long story. I rent a council property did an exchange from a 2 bed to a 3 due to unfortunate circumstances my nephew had to come and live with us and I had 2 small children of my own.

Moved house and have since had nothing but problems. Damp and mould which effects my childrens chest, Neighbours who have 2 dogs that are out barking day and night. The neighbours have loud aggressive rows sometimes in the street sometimes in the house but the walls are so thin I can hear word for word banging, swearing and very violent behaviour. The drainage system has collapsed and I now have sewage in my garden and a blocked drain I can't even use my washing machine and the smell in the garden, kitchen and bathroom is disguisting. Can't have any windows open and it's so stuffy. I have 3 young children 4, 3 and 6 months. The man came out yesterday and said he couldn't find the manhole and couldn't do anything:mad: but would send someone out tomorrow as it was an emergency!!! but in the meantime do not go in thre garden. This person never showed up and I still have a blocked drain. I contacted the office and they said they would call me back which suprise, suprise they never did.

The boiler switches itself on and off and the radiators come on even in the sweltering heat. This is with the thermostat and radiators turned off. They have suppose to have solved this problem (replacing a part)4 times before but it still happens. Suppose to be coming again tomorrow but will have to wait and see if they bother turning up.

My house is on a slante and looks like it is sinking. A neighbour who has lived on the street for 25 years told me that the house was going to be demolished once over as it was sinking. But instead they just steaded the foundations:eek:

I just want out what can I do??? Can I demand that they find me suitable accomadation???
This is putting so much strain on me and my family
Also recently discovered that the lady I did the exchange with was only in the house for 2 months because of all the hassle she had with the neighbours:eek: but she obviously never told me this!!

I'm afraid I cannot offer any advice, but didn't want to read and run... your situation sounds terrible!

Have a (hug) and a bumpety bump....
I've got a plan so cunning you could put a tail on it and call it a weasel.

There is nothing to stop you writing to the council listing all the problems/defects and ask that they remedy or consider moving you to suitable alternative accommodation (which they may not have). If the exchange was one which you arranged, the council may not feel obliged to rehouse you.
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales

I'd contact (as soon as possible) my MP, it's their job to help their constituents.
saving up another deposit as we've lost all our equity.

IS it council housing you're in?
I'm not sure I followed that you did a swap and then you said you moved again.

I suspect putting the issues in a clear list and ringing your local councillor today and see if they will come and see the problems and assist you either in getting moved or having them sorted out.

I think Shelter can help with things like this. Can you actually go to the council office? I would plonk myself down with the three kiddies and refuse to leave til they help you.

Unfortunately you have to make it harder for them to ignore you than to help you.

    Hi

Where are you are the situation in Scotland and England is different?

I assume this is social housing? Have you made a proper list of the problems with details, dates and any promise of action, in writing?

Get hold of your local councillor, find out when their next surgery is and go and see them.

Ask them for the name of an official who you can send a list to.

Stop phoning people and put your complaint inn writing, even if it means putting all three kids in a buggy and walking to the housig office.
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing

Thanks for the responses I am in England. I was in a council property and did an exchange into another council house.
