Notice served today - Advice needed

Hi,

I am currently living in a rented property which I have been in for 9 years. I originally took the tennancy on through a local letting agent who has been fantastic.
In December 2009, I received a letter from a national letting agent who was acting on behalf of LPA receivers informing me that they were taking over as letting agents. They asked me to send a copy of my tennancy agreement and a receipt of my last rent payment, which I did. I sent all the documents they asked for within a couple of hours of recieving the original letter. I heard nothing. The letter did state that they would be intouch regarding rent payment. Then in February 2010 I came home to find a notice stuck to my door informing me I had 7 days to contact the new letting agent so a surveyor could have access to the house, again I contacted them straight away and they said someone would be intouch. A week later I again return home to another letter saying that my 7 days had expired and I had to immediatly contact the letting agents. I did this straight away and was told " sorry for this someone will be intouch". Nobody ever was!
In May they contacted me again asking me to resend/regive the information I had given back in Decemeber (apparently an employee of the company had left and all my information had been lost), I regave my information. I also mentioned the fact that after several requests from me to the new letting agents nobody had requested any rent from me, he said that someone from the accounts department would be intouch. And guess what, they have not! I have had not a phone call or letter regarding my rent which I have not paid since December. I have been saving my rent so it is available when requested.
Today I received through the post a letter serving me a 3 month notice, this letter was from the letting agents acting on behalf of the receivers.
Unsure what to do. Do I ring the letting agents and find out why they have served notice? Do I send a cheque for my rent recorded delivary in the post?
The notice served today was not a shock as I did wonder if this might happen back in Decemebr, but more of a major headache of having to find somewhere else to live.

Thanks for reading

To pay the previous landlords creditors, the receivers may have to sell the property.

3 months is more notice than you would have got, if the landlord had not gone bust.

Use the time to find somewhere else.

I'd let them bill you for the rent owed, to be sure about who you are paying - don't want the Letting agents cashing a cheque, then the receiver Landlord coming along for the same money...

I would call and ask about the notice - could be because they want to sell. What form has the notice taken? S.21? S.8? = Wheres your Deposit?

I certainly wouldnt pay the rent until instructed to do so by ir theaccounts department. Open a basic bank account and put it in there if you dont have it seperate from you current account,

Send a recorded delivery letter to the agents and LPA Reciever stating you have rent in a seperate account and would like instructions on who, how and where to pay it. Keep a copy of the letter for yourself. Dont chase it again after this.

    Hi,

    Thanks for your replys.

The notice I was served is a S21? I dont no the difference between them.

I did ring the letting agents to find out the reason why, and it needs to be sold.

My deposit is apparently still with my original letting agent who is local to me. I have made an appointment to see him next week to discuss the deposit also new properties for rent.

I'm confused. It sounds as if the original lettings agent has gone bust, not the Landlord.

Is it just that the LL is selling at the same time as the transition between agents?
