Can anyone advise on cost for cam belt change?

Hi,

Just trying to budget and wanted a realistic idea of what it should cost. Have only grabbed one phone quote of £200 which i thought was a bit steep.

Car is a R reg VW Polo.

Also any idea of cost to replace disc brakes and pads incase?

    "It depends" meaning it depends on whether they do the job properly replacing stuff that should be done as a precaution, such as a waterpump driven by the cambelt, where you live and what the hourly rate is.

    Discs and pads - for anything I'd be happy to have in mine, £100-£150, again depending on labour rates.

    A garage near near us is advertising cam belt changes on upto 2 Litre cars for £149.99 including VAT.

    I have never had to have one done as mine is chain driven :)

    Was speaking to a guy in the pub the other day who's car has, sorry, had a timing chain.
    Our timing belt going done in the rockers instead of the valves. The chain going has done in both.

    I think it will cost around £200 OP, you'll probably want the waterpump doing at the same time as hammy says. I think £200 is about right including the pump. Maybe a little steep without.

    When our belt went, as it was a non interference engine, the rockers took the hit to save the valves. (no need to remove the head to fix).
    The guy in the pub had a chain. It went. I had a little look on the internet and it takes out everything apparently.

    Just to add, the water pump for ours was £185 alone lol. timing kit £140, tensioner around £70. thats before you kick a ball.
