Speaking from experience (I've been an Instructor for 4 years), you need to go with whatever's best for you. The intensive courses work well with some people, while others find they can't take everything in quick enough. IMO the best intensive course is run over 4-8 weeks, the best of both worlds, fairly quick but not too OTT.

Looking at the number of hours, yes the DSA state 45 hours is the average. I've had someone who recently passed who took around 20 hours, but he had previous motorcycle experience which helped. One the other side of things I had one (older) lady who took 20 hours with me, AFTER 120+ hours and 7 failed tests. She went on to pass on her 9th and I see her around town all the time and her driving is perfectly safe, she just had issues with the test.

I've found the average is more like 30-50 hours depending on the way you learn.

If you have any other questions I can help, just let me know.

    Rob
