Hi , does anyone know if either of these can be bought second hand and played or do they need an account and internet connection with 'Steam' or similar , and so are no use second hand from ebay.
Thanks

I'm sure that you can play second-hand copies of both games provided you buy discs which are in good condition and your pc meets the recommended/minimum specs for both games.

I've not bought any to use but when I moved to playing games on consoles rather than on my laptop I sold my pc versions of Fallout 3 and Bioshock (the first one) on ebay where there was a good market for them.

I see quite a few second-hand pc games sold on ebay and never seen or heard anyone have special problems. It's a good source for used games at reasonable prices but you need to buy from some-one with strong positive feedback as a seller and do your research.

Steam is a different kettle of fish and has nothing to specifically do with second-hand games. It serves a different purpose as a place where you can buy and download games for play on your pc via the Steam system.

Thanks for that jj. It's just that i bought a game on ebay a few months ago (1 of the half life series) and it wouldn't work because it was linked to an account on steam and couldn't be used without the original purchasers account details

Sorry to hear you had a problem with your previous ebay purchase.

Hope you took it up with the seller and got it resolved to your satisfaction.

If the linkage to Steam was not clearly stated in the item description when you bought it then you should have had recourse to the seller (or to the ebay dispute system) for a refund or sorting out in some other way you were happy with.

Best bet I'd say is watch out for steam to do one of their silly special offer weeks/weekends

both those games are £20 but have been up to 60-75% off in the past, personally I'd rather spend £5, have some of it go back to the developer and not need to worry about ebay faff... tbh everyone wins :)

google the name of the game and DRM after it. It will tell you what kind of DRM shipped with the game. Steam make it impossible to buy second hand games, because they link the game to an account.

Bioshock has some harsh DRM which 2K relaxed due to some complaints, But really depends on the version of the game on the Disc. The DRM stopped the game being installed more than 2-3 times. They later uped it to 5.

Fallout 3 has SecuROM but has unlimited installation rights.
