I built up 8 years no claims discount for a car most of it was with Llyods insurance

In Nov 2009 just after changing insurance to M&S some swine hit our stationary car outside our very quite street that is takes only traffic for this street as its like a cul-de-sac we get very little traffic but street is quite narrow.

Now had to claim £600 damage plus hire car and £200 access I had to pay

I am not sure how I stand with protected no claims obviously old insurance will know about accident (hit n run) but whether they charge more this year or not I dont know

I like to shop around and get cashback if possible, will I need to declare I have had a claim even though it wasnt my fault and I have protected no claims?

Just found a old thread on this

Some Insurers will apply a premium load but some don't apply a load.

The premium will be a lot lower than if you had not protected your no claims bonus.

Bear in mind that as a general rule everyone's has gone up this year

You premium will probably be loaded for a claim.
If this is only one in 3 years then the increase will be small.

You still keep your discount though.

If you didn't have protected NCD then you'd get the loading PLUS reduced discount, this way you'll jsut get a (probably) small loading.

My own personal experience from playing with comparison sites, is that one claim is not too bad.
Become a serial claimer and then you're stuffed, so park away from bad people.

No I'm not joking or being sarcastic. If the supermarket it jam packed in the middle then park in the empty bit a walk 300 feet.

At the moment you will have to record a "fault" claim.
It wasn't your fault but for now it's been paid for by your insurance.
At renewal time it may have been settled and then you can declare it as "non-fault" or "fully recovered" when the money has been reclaimed from the other side (including hopefully your excess).
