Stupidly bought car from auction...

Accept it was a gamble and you lost. Why not ask the auction house to resell it for you (as a non-runner again), you may get some money back and the next buyer may be more clued up.
Edit: Ha! Quinny beat me to it.0 -
This is what the Citizens Advice Bureau have to say about SOGA and auctions http://www.adviceguide.org.uk/index/c_buying_at_auction.pdfHowever, if you buy at an auction it is possible to lose these rights if:
- the goods are second hand; and
- you have the opportunity to attend the sale in person; and
- you are told that the Sale of Goods Act 1979 (as amended) didn't
apply or that the goods were sold as seen. This could be by way of a
notice or exclusion clause in the catalogue; and
- the auctioneer can show that this was reasonable.
Going through the above point by point:
1 - the car was 2nd hand
2 - you attended the auction in person
3 - the car was described as "sold as seen"
4 - this is the way car auctions normally work so is reasonable (plus they probably never inspect the cars so are totally unaware of their condition)
So unfortunately you don't have a leg to stand on."One thing that is different, and has changed here, is the self-absorption, not just greed. Everybody is in a hurry now and there is a 'the rules don't apply to me' sort of thing." - Bill Bryson0 -
Auction only covers you if the vehicle is stolen or subject to finance.
Sold as seen, Non runner should have made alarm bells ring, Worth a £50 bid if you good at DIY.
