CSCS is not fundable through the Skills Funding Agency and so a provider will attach it to a funded course such as Employability Skills or Literacy/Numeracy.

As others have said, the reason they make you do the English and Maths assessments and tests is to provide the funding.

A few years ago, the Government decided that Maths and English skills in the workforce needed improving so they provided a budget via the (then) Learning and Skills Council to get people to gain their Level 1 and Level 2 Basic Skills in Numeracy and Literacy. When you achieve these levels, the Government then passes on the funding to training provider who actually uses the money to pay for your CSCS card training and qualification.

It's also used in other qualifications such as ECDL/BCS, Forklift qualification etc etc.

In other words, the Maths and English tests indirectly pay for the main qualification which is why the CSCS card will cost you if you don't take the tests, as they then won't be able to get the funding.

d get your mate to use it

Actually CSCS was set up because the industry at the time was killing too many people, and the government wanted to legislate. The MCG [Major Contractors Group] asked for their to be no legislation and requested that CSCS be set up on their behalf to try and instill a certain level of H&S within the industry; after a while it was also linked with the NVQ to show competence.

You may scoff at the questions, however a fair amount of construction workers don't pass the test. Which begs the question, how are these people allowed to leave the house?

e ensure the drill uses the designated smoking area.

Does anyone have the number for calling the CSCS to order a card, without using the 0844 number on their website? I want a landline number, and all I've managed to get off saynoto0870 is an 0344 number which I'm still paying for, does anyone have a landline number for them?

ive been a ceiling fixer for 22 years i have a pasma card so that i can erect mobile towers to any height i also have an ipaf card i can drive mewps and cherry pickers to any height. ive held a cscs card for five years saying that i am a ceiling fixer/dryliner. yet after sitting another ridiculous health and safty test and paying another 60 quid these bandits have sent my forms back saying they want another 16 quid for a working at height test apparantley the two nationaly recognised training certificates i already spent a fortune getting mean nothing to the cscs pirates. i am properly furious about this all the firms that i work for ask for the cards so i have no choice but to pay it.
