Cscs card???

What has Maths and English got to do with a CSCS card for joinery?? why on earth would i be required to sit Maths and English for, that makes no sense what so ever, i'm even more confused than before starting the thread!!
So it's either a Health and Safety course or a Maths and English course...oh !!!!!! ...lol:D
Because you're doing it through the job centre its government funded and they require you to earn the right to take the test which is why you have to do either Maths or English at City and Guild level 1 or 2. But like I said, you can pay £25 to miss all that part and just take the test. You'll have an induction day which they'll tell you you have to do Maths or English then your course will start on a Monday. Monday to Thursday will be 9am til 5pm doing work on a PC, simple sums for Maths or an essay for English. Then on the Friday you'll sit your CSCS test, go in early and they give you a couple of hours to do mock tests.Love United - Hate Glazer0 -

Construction Skills Certificate Scheme (CSCS)

Ok, in a nutshell it's nothing to worry about (apologies in advance for the humour in my following comment) because all they wan't to know is this;
1) you know your right from your left
2) you can count from 1-10 and back again
3) you can tie your OWN shoelaces CORRECTLY (no velcro - that's considered cheating!)
oh and 4) that you're not a 'leming' who's gonna throw themselves off a cliff (come scaffolding)
They can go abit ott with awards and certificates in 'how to use a step-ladder correctly', 'how to change a light-bulb', 'how to use a self-propelled lawn-mower' (responsibilities) - they can really milk it at times and it's a bit of a chuckle really tbh.
You're 'supposed' to take it 'seriously' but personally speaking i think that alot of what they teach undermines common sense and responsiblility for what you SHOULD already know!
As one of the others previously mentioned. Mulitiple choice in which you would probably have more difficulty in remembering your own surname.
As for the sholelaces ref above description (it's more of a dummies guide of how to behave and conduct 'oneself' when on a building site.)
Reallistically speaking it's more for the employer's 'piece of mind' - purely for insurance purposes etc so if you get run over by a steamroller or are stupid enough to go for a swim in a cement mixer then they can just point fingers at YOU!
Once again, sorry for the 'non-intentional' sarcasm.
Good look either way.

That's just the H&S test; the other part of the CSCS card scheme is competence in your trade.
Just to be clear. CSCS is the scheme. It consists of a H&S test and NVQ based competence in the trade that the person is carrying out on site. CSCS is not the test....CSCS is the scheme.
It was developed as too many people were being killed in construction, and it is an INDUSTRY LED scheme; ie the industry are consulted and set the guidelines. CITB-ConstructionSkills administer it on behalf of the Industry.0 -

I had to do a test thing to get one to work on site. Never bothered looking at anything before the test it's 90% common sense and the rest you can guess.Nothing to see here, move along.0

Yes I do but because his is through the job centre its government funded, I did mine just a few months ago! You get the basic CSCS card at the end of it which doesnt require an NVQ. If you want to upgrade to the next level then you have to do an NVQ.
Don't worry Kaaaaarl some people just have a personal vendetta against anyone who remotely makes a logical and lighthearted comment about a topic of any nature. *Rolls eyes round room*. Sometimes you can even be an 'experienced professional' working within a particular field of experienc and unfortunately you will still be shot down and treated like you know absolutely nothing, when in actual fact we are all trying to help each other 'sus' things out.

I have recently completed a cscs test arranged through the jobcentre and yes littleblue, they ARE clueless idiots. The first company said I would have to undertake maths and english tests, which I concidered to be an insult to my intelligence and an admission that the education system is not working. I went back to the jobcentre and spoke to someone who then booked me into another training company, as they themselves were not happy with the first company, but other jobcentre employees were still sending people to the first company?? The second company was as advertised so to speak, and passing the test was a walk in the park. HOWEVER! the jobcentre pay for the test and the certificate but the certificate is still not accepted by some construction firms and they insist you have the plastic card, which! cost 30 quid and they will not pay that unless you have a job offer, therefore the jobcentre is not fully helping to optimise your job prospects, especially when the bulk of jobs are agency and will not send you to a site unless you have a card to start with. So unless you have a job offer you will have to do as I had to and pay for the card out of what the government says is the minimum required to live on. I have voiced my opinions to my MP who has forwarded them to the DWP as maths and english tests for every applicant is a waste of time and money. Final comment! some H & S officers have voiced their concerns to government that the schemes should be scrapped, because they have made no difference to the accident rates.0
