Sale price differences - why?

I'm thinking of selling an The OC boxset and I am so bemused about the selling price differences that occur.

220023841346 just sold for £26 + £3 p+p

170025652174 same item is already at £38 and still has over 2 days left?

Am I stupid? I just don't get it? The first item had no pic, but it can't make that much difference?

A picture makes a big difference, its always good to see what your bidding for. If the pic is of the item itself and not a stock photo, even better!

This seems to happen all the time. I bid on a DVD recently and won it for £4. The buyer had 100% feedback, the DVD was listed as being in excellent condition and there was a photo. The item's title and description was also very good and all correctly spelled so there was no reason for people not to find the auction. I was the only person to bid on it and there were other auctions for the same DVD with multiple bids and the prices were shooting up. I often see this. I think people start bidding on something and get caught up with that auction. If I get outbid on an auction I go and do another search to see if anyone else has listed another one.

Yep agree....people just love bidding even though its stoopid! I saw people bidding on a soon to close item that they could have bought for less as a BIN from the SAME seller.... I just dont get it!! Sorry !!

I have, on more than one occasion, seen people bidding around £15 ( + £1.25 p&p) for an item where there were several BIN's at £10.99 post free higher up the page.

And these were BNIB items so there was no difference from seller to seller.

So pay £5.26 extra AND have to wait a few days for the auction to end.

There seem to be several along any minute!

Ive had people bidding more on an auction with days to go when I have a buy it now for the same thing offered for less....strange. Suppose they dont search fully and automatically think an auction is going to be cheaper.
  • I used to get this all the time on my best seller (before i stopped selling it) i would start it auction from £80 BIN £100, they always sold between dead on £80 & £140!

  • Yeah, I think part of it is bid-mania, but personally I'd never buy a DVD without a picture showing it's an original disk. Ok, that may be a fake picture, but at least then it would be obvious they faked it if they sent me a Chinese pirate disk...

I've been collecting a series of old SF novels from the 80s off eBay, and I've noticed that people will often get into a bidding war and keep raising even though they could wait a week and get the same book for far less. I just set my maximum bid and forget about it, I'm not in enough of a hurry to pay 20 quid for a book I could have in similar condition for 99p next month. In fact, on occasion I've felt kind of bad about how cheaply I got some of them when I was the only bidder.

Yes me too.I bought my DD a book for her A levels recently thats £30 new.
The seller had absolutely no feedback but then everyone has to start somewhere. The same book was sold for about £20 later on the same day I got mine for £7.The book arrived in mint condition.Best thing I could do was make sure the feedback was excellent.
