I wouldn't put tomatoes in it, unless you want gazillions of tomato plants sprouting up wherever you spread your compost! ;) Got the T-shirt. :D

as well as veg peelings, fruit peelings, coffee grounds, tea bags, grass cuttings etc, i also put in shredded paper, loo roll inner tubes (creates air pockets which makes the compost mulch down quicker), tumble drier fluff, hair (from hair cuts, and when cleaning hairbrushes), we have a rabbit so when her hutch is cleaned out, that all goes in as well. for the tea bags, at the end of each day i make a big jug of tea with the used bags and let it go cold, i use that to feed my house plants then chuck the tea bags in the compost bin ... one tip i found useful is not to let the compost bin dry out ... that encourages vermin to nest ... don't let it get too wet but try to keep it damp-ish. i tend to leave the lid off my bin and it lets the rain in . good luck ... it's a nice feeling when you get your first compost from the dalek ... we have two named george and mildred lol x

OH's mum used to get her boys to pee on hers when they lived at home, and she said it worked a treat.

  • Oh yes, shredded paper is good as well (in smallish quantities). The books say use torn up newspapers, but I've taken to sticking in a handful of bank statements and such like from my paper shredder. Helps the compost and really stops ID theft.
If you would be wealthy, think of saving as well as getting.
