One way car hire over seas to Ireland

Hi I wish to hire a car from Kent and take the ferry to Belfast and leave it off there. Is this possible? Does anyone know or any company that offers this service?

Thanks so much

I think you may find it very expensive.

Something to think about is that the Irish come over to the UK to buy second hand cars due to the difference in prices between the two countries, they especially like classic cars. It might be worth doing a bit of research as it may pay for itself.

    Belfast ISN'T Ireland!

This is a common misconception- Northern Ireland has been part of UK for circa 400 years, we speak English, use Sterling, and obey GB law. Car prices in Northern Ireland are fairly similar to the mainland at the moment.
Our licence plates are UK, as are passports, driving licences, and official documents.

    Rant over!

Off the top of my head, Hertz and Avis operate in belfast as well as Kent, though I'm sure there are plenty more.

I think it is. It just isn't the Republic of Ireland.:p
  • Thanks, I managed to get one quote from Enterprise for £170, duration of three days. If anyone can think of any other companies which go from kent to belfast that would be very much appreciated. Id like to get a cheaper quote. Thank you for the valid answers and help, i really appreciate those people who go out of their way to help others.

You don't say why you need to take the car to Belfast.

Are you carrying something that is too big to be hand carried? Could it be couriered?

Are you not coming back? Would it be cheaper to hire the car to the port of embarkation and travel as a foot passenger?

    :naughty:

Budget rent in NI also, they may be worth trying. Have never used.
  • Thanks,

Sorry, I am moving from Kent to Ireland and I have some belongings which need to be brought over. These belongings will fill two cars. As i need to take my own personal car over to ireland on the ferry we thought that by hiring another car this would take the belongings over at the same time and at a cheaper price than a removal company.
We would car the car in kent and take the ferry and leave the other car off back in belfast.

Travel in your own car with half the stuff.

Hire car in NI and do a return journey for the other half. The hire charge is likely to be less but you will have to find one extra ferry fare.
