Hello folks,

I'm in a bit of a predicament just now and panicking!
We are the 1st tennants in a newly restored very plush house, white wool cream carpets etc.

We got married in April and were given a shaggy leather rug (like a rag rug but with leather off cuts) This rug is all kinds of reds burgandies and browns, generally a lovely rug, I moved it from our hall (where it lived on the laminate flooring) up into the bedroom onto the afore mentioned cream wool carpet about 2/3 weeks ago, not thinking anything of it, I went to hoover in there today and moved the rug to find 2 patches of pink stains (like the colour beetroot stains your fingers)I dont know how, there was no moisture or anything near it to bleed the dye I have tried baby wipes which are great( I found this out when the dog was on heat) but not for this, I've tried 1001 and that's not done it either, any suggestions? we cant afford to replace the carpet and realy need to get it fixed!
I will try anything!!!!

Thanks in advance

Imp

ou could try Stardrops. Everyone her has found this really good on many types of stain. If that fails I always recommend a product called Release which is available online from Premier Products. (It comes in a 5L container, but with a white carpet that might not be a bad thing!!)
    I have plenty of willpower - it's won't power I need.

I used to work in property management & deal with these sorts of accidents all the time.

I would suggest the following : Contact your management/rental company & ask for the name of the cleaning company they use (use their preferred cleaning company, probably not the cheapest but will work to that companies standards so no call-backs if they do it wrong or having to pay twice or anything) then call them directly & ask them to come & clean that rooms carpet. Obviously you don't want them to do the whole flat, & doing it now may work out cheaper while the mark is fresh & not "set" which happens over time, if you leave it then at the end of your tenancy special removal products might be needed as it will have bleed into the base fibre too & those products ONLY work with a porfessional carpet machine & are expensive. It may even be possible to have just the mark treated rather than the whole room if the carpets are that new. I used to deal ith this sort of thing for a living & it is by far the best way. Don't worry too much, the management company realize this sort of thing happens & you will be acting very responsibly by acting on it quickly. Don't let the management company arrange for the cleaners to come out unless you can confirm that they won't charge you handling fee for dealing with it, just call the cleaners direct yourself if you can.

I know this isn't the cheapest or most OS option but to be honest, in my experience, if 1001 doesn't fix it then you will need it dealing with professionally. Management companies for these sorts of properties have very high standards!

    HTH & good luck;)

  • Thank you both, well firstly I can't get star drops here,so that's out,(the joys of island living!) After posting I tried washing powder, which failed, then tried bleach on a cotton bud for the worst of it and although it lightened it a touch it didn't do much enough to mention or enough to warrant the whole patch

I'm not really worried about OS right now just getting it fixed, now it is a private lease from a local lawyers and they don't use companies for these sort of things,(there aren't any of those industrial cleaning companies where we live really, well not for this type of thing) the carpet was brand new and it's just 2 saucer sized patches of pink and red stain on it, the problem is that the landlord is a child of afore mentioned lawyer.

However I'm going to call in to one of our local carpet shops and ask advice there to see what they suggest, thanks for all the suggestions though.

I would try some Ace bleach on it, if it's good enough for woolens in a wash then it should be okay on carpet and I've never found anything it can't get out.

contents insurance? :) accidental damage should cover that kind of stain and if it's a new carpet then I'd claim for it sooner rather than later :) (older the carpet the less it's deemed to be worth... therefor the higher the amount you'd have to pay to replace it with exact same stuff. I am sat listening to our downstairs being done in laminate flooring as our cream white carpet had ink stains on it... the ink actually stained through the carpet, the underlay AND has stained the concrete underneath! Yours should with any luck have only stained the "top" of the carpet so you might be in luck. Have you tried any stain remover for "woollen garments"? Might be worth trying...

Theres a wipe you can buy from Superdrug for 99p which is supposed to be for getting hairdye off your skin but last time I dyed my hair I also got a blob on the carpet and it cleaned that up too. I wonder if it might be worth giving that a try? You can find them in the hair dye section of Superdrug.
