Direct Line not asking me where the car is kept?

I'm shopping around for my new car insurance, my renewal is huge and any new quotes are equally huge, mostly because during term time my car is kept in a town center, whereas my permanent address is in a countryside low risk town.

direct line however, don't ask me where the car is kept, it only asks me what my mailing address is. am i missing something or do they not care?

    You are missing something!

When you are asked for your address, then they want the address where the car is kept overnight.

If that is different to your mailing address, then you input that (ie mailing address) later on in the quote procedure

Most quote engine make assumptions. Directline will be doing this and as above they probably assume it is kept at the policy address.

They may not be interested in whether it is garaged;on street parking etc but if they find out it isnt kept at the home address your in trouble.

Search engines/online quotes etc are only practical for standard insurance; outwith standard stuff you need to use brokers or go direct to the underwriting teams for quotes.

They will ask if your car is garaged/drive parked or street parked over night, in some form or other.

What does worry me is the instance when your usually garaged car in the sticks, is nicked from outside your distant Cockny relatives house, ????
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

Direct line don't make an assumption, but clearly state:
We will search for the full address via your postcode however by entering the name or number of the address where your car is kept overnight it will speed up the process.

Please enter the postcode where the car will be kept overnight

you are allowed to keep the car elsewhere too haha. the address where the car is kept at night is where its is kept at least 51% of the time.

Your OP didn't ask about that!

You actually wanted to know why you weren't asked where your car was kept!

Think this counts as a material fact and the FOS have rules that if insurance companies consider something to be a material fact then they need to ask a “clear and unambiguous” quest about it which you obviously have to answer honestly to the best of your ability

If they don’t ask, they don’t care and you don’t have to tell them
