Servicing - is this a good deal

I have just bought a new Ford Fiesta. The garage have offered me a Service Plan and I was wondering if this sounds a good deal? It is:
the 3 annual services
first MOT
3 years breakdown cover
unlimited number of punctures cover
wash and vac each time it is serviced

Total price is a shade over £500 and I can pay monthly by direct debit at £16 with no interest. I asked another local Ford dealer and theirs was pricier.

Is the Fiesta on variable servicing or fixed annual?
  • It'd be annual servicing as I don't clock up the miles needed to require servicing to mileage (12.5k IIRC).

3 annual services £90-£100 each (it'll only need an oil change as it's new)

3 years breakdown cover around £25 a year with RAC/AA, others will be cheaper.

Punctures? i've had 1 in last 10 years and that cost £5 to fix.

Wash.... By some work experience kid who likes to drop the sponge on the floor and then wash your car with it, swirl marks and scratches galore. When my car is serviced (if not by myself) I explicitly tell them NOT to wash my car.
Vac.... I don't treat my car like a living room, the interior is always as clean as a whistle.

Personally I wouldn't put myself in further debt for that.... Oh and I wouldn't take my car to a main dealer for servicing anyway, not without putting marker pen on all the parts they're supposed to change (and then checking they have been changed afterwards).

I won't mention manufacturer, but a friend took his car in for service having marked all the service parts, he paid some £200 and then found out nothing had been done to it!

  • Well the fee won't put me in debt and it's a full breakdown cover with home start not just the one that covers you when away from home.

I'd be interested as to where a service is £100. Wish I was as lucky with punctures - I get at least 1 per year and that last one cost me £25 to repair.

£100 is about normal if you phone around and ask about an intermediate service.
I prefer to do it myself though, while parts are more expensive than trade cost, I can service my car for £55-£60....
That's oil, oil filter, air filter, spark plugs.... A bit more than an interim service and takes me around 2 hours (with a break in between while the oil drains out).

I notice the AA do servicing for £99 if your a member, there are also some others as low as £70. Google is your friend.

    £25 ????????

Im surprised they didn't claim it was unrepairable and try to sell you a new tyre instead.... Along with telling you your brakes and suspension are knackered.

Sorry if I seem somewhat opinionated on this stuff, it just angers me how garages treat people as cash cows. It's not your fault, it's they who take advantage.

Do you not get 3 years free breakdown cover with a brand new car anyway?
it does sound quite expensive IMO....

My grandad paid for a 3 year servicing deal when he bought his last new car. He feels he didn't get value for money because each year when it went in for the service he would mention things like brakes squeaking etc. Gets the car back and nothing has been done. I think the garage were lazy as they knew they weren't getting any money for doing the service as they had already been paid years beforehand. This year on the 4th service he took it somewhere else who did an excellent job, talked him through everything they did etc.
