I've started to claim ESA, had to finish work due to my disability getting worse.

I was on the standard low rate for the first 13 weeks (less amount due to my ill health pension).

I've now been placed in the Work Related Group so my ESA amount has increased and is dated until November, but what happens at that point, will it be re-assessed or will it just carry on? I've had my first of the 5 interviews the other day and if these are monthly will end around Xmas.

I don't want to budget that I'll be getting this £80 a week only to loose it in a few months.

    Thanks

If you pass your medical, you'd be entitled to another premium on top of your ESA, depending on what group you go into. You may get this money back dated if they end up (due to deciding which group you go into or another reason) taking a few weeks to make their decision.

Do you know the timescale on this - I've now been receiving the higher rate for about 4 weeks now. And what is the back pay made up of?

I've been on £64.30 a week for the first 14 weeks, now it has been increased to £96.85 a week. A payment of £171 was paidn into my bank account today ( a bit short, as it should have been £193.70). I have been put into the support group.

When did your claim actually start? i.e. the date from which your original letter said you were eligible for ESA?

£171 works out as 1 week £96.85, plus the equivalent of 4 days of £96.85 per week plus 2 days of £64.30 per week. So I was wondering whether you're paid on a Friday but the start of your actual claim was a Saturday therefore your two weeks payment is split between the two rates. Should be £193.70 next time.
