I've just picked up an HP NX6325 for £400 for my brother-in-law who's just started a Masters degree.

I received my Inspirion 1300 this week, paid a bit extra for the better battery,its also got a widescreen. cost me £342. I am very happy with it.

Did you get the 15.4" for that?

If so well done, I paid £350.71 for it with 15.4" and 6 cell battery about 5 months ago now

Do not avoid Acers - they are brilliant machines for their price. My teacher dropped hers on concrete and all it did was scuff the case a little bit - still works!

do avoid acers as I've seen problems on loads of them - they are cheap for a reason. However they are good on the customer service side, the only point is you will need this.

it's really interesting how different everyone's experience is - i've never had a problem with an acer and dell have always given great customer service for me (but admittedly not for a laptop).
