Water brown from peat

OK... has anybody else any experience with this?
Our water is tea-colored due to peat. It doesn't taste bad, and I'm assured it's quite safe to drink. But, it does stain up the bathroom/grout a bit. And, I've noticed some light staining on white laundry. (For that reason, I bought cream-colored sheets rather than white.)
I gather that this is not widespread in my region - it seems to be only our cluster of cottages.
Has anybody dealt with this? Any advice on how to deal? I guess I'm mostly worried about laundry stains, keeping the bathroom white and shiney, and being able to make clear ice cubes.

I take it you're on a private water supply?
If not, I would have your water analysed to determine if it's safe to drink.
There are many filtration systems that should be able to limit the discolouration somewhat.0 -
We used to have this problem when we lived in Scotland.
We bought a water filter for everday drinking and for filling up ice cubes.
I can't rememeber it staining linen though. But buy a water filter. I have had one now for 11 years and wouldn;t do without!0 -
We used to live in Devon and had brown staining caused by iron in the water from the borehole. There are treatment systems you can fit to a water supply but a lot of these put chemicals in the water which we wanted to avoid. In the end we learned to live with strange coloured and quite strong tasting water. We too used a filter for drinking water. Would a bit of bleach with the washing powder help when washing whites?0
